Wells

Places to Visit

Visit The Square indoor play centre and café in Wells!

The Square is the go-to place for young children to kick back and let off some steam while the adults get to relax.   During school holidays we'll get children up to 12 years old but our centre is primarily pre-schoolers.

Unlike the usual indoor play centres, with a large play area inside an industrial unit, The Square is in a traditional building and has lots of different spaces in which to play, giving it a much more relaxed atmosphere and making it even more exciting for children. There are seven different areas at The Square (with two more to come at the end of 2021), plus a fantastic coffee-shop.

The Main Play Area

This area is approximately 82m² separated into two sections over two floors with loads of play features to keep your children entertained. There is a height restriction in this area that roughly equates to a 12 year old, however there is no lower age limit so parents are requested to be vigilant with smaller children especially at weekends and during school holidays when the centre is visited more frequently by children over 5.

The Assault Course

The assault course can be found in a separate room from the main play area and is purpose built, designed to lead the children through one doorway, around the course and exit via a different doorway. Parents can easily see their children as they charge through the course but due to the hectic nature of the course smaller children and babies are discouraged from taking part.

The Toddler Area

The toddler area is perfectly situated next to the café and is approximately 25m². The space is enclosed by a padded play area with lots of interactive pieces of equipment. It has been specifically placed in the far corner so while it is close to retain the atmosphere, it is far enough away to create a sheltered corner for parents and toddlers to play safely. It’s also right next to the baby room so parents with babies and toddlers can watch them both. This area has a height restriction which roughly equates to around 3 years old.

The Baby Room

The baby room is an ideal retreat for babies and their parents/carers as it’s separated from the main play area with a child-proof gate but still easily accessible to the main room. The play area itself is approximately 40m² with a special sensory area containing lots of different features to attract baby’s attention with additional seating space dedicated to parents and babies. The maximum age for this room is 18 months, although this is a guide as babies develop at different rates.

The Courtyard

The Square has a fantastic outside courtyard area, fully enclosed so little people cannot escape! It's a sunny spot with a padded safety floor and lots of seats. There is a large chalk board for the children to decorate as they see fit and an amazing disco bouncy castle. Sounds exciting to me! This area is open May to September, weather permitting.

The Padded Cabin

This area is situated along the corridor, just past the Assault Course area. It’s basically a purpose-built inflatable, designed to fit exactly into the small room, so it feels like a padded room. It’s a great little space for children to ‘hide’, but parents can easily see them by popping their head through the doorway, as there’s a viewing panel in the internal wall. It’s a small space (with regard to floor area: it has adult head-height), which will only fit a couple of children at once, and because it’s completely padded and enclosed, it’s perfectly safe.

The Projector Room

Unique in the area for soft play centres, this room is situated at the end of the café bar, between our main room and additional seating room. This is a darkened space with a fantastic interactive projector equipped with 23 different games on a continual, automatic loop; guaranteed to keep your children busy for hours! It is, in effect, just a giant tablet on the floor that can be played by multiple children at once.

Suitable for any age group but, as with most areas children should be supervised during busier times, especially older children who may try to hog the floor, because once they start playing, they won’t want to stop!

The café is situated in the middle of the main room, perfect for parents to view the children playing. This café is in no way an afterthought and achieves its aim of ensuring the parents have as much to visit for as the children. Following the coffee shop model you will find excellent ‘proper’ coffee, tea, milkshakes and other drinks along with a range of sandwiches, paninis and wraps from local cafe, Daniels, plus a good selection of cakes.

The staff at The Square are really friendly and accommodating. If you are looking for somewhere to take your young children we couldn’t recommend The Square more highly.

You can also hold a party for your child at The Square, we have just one simple booking now, for private hire. It's a fixed price to have the whole centre to yourself, regardless of how many guests you invite
