What is The Mendips Rock?
This is a question which has been asked of me several times over the last 18 months so I probably should have written this article sooner!
Essentially, The Mendips Rock is a what’s on website, established for families and individuals looking for things to do in and around the Mendip area – specifically Cheddar, Wells, Shepton Mallet and Glastonbury. Alongside the website we have an ever-growing community on Facebook and Instagram. If you haven’t already please do follow us on your platform of choice.
About me
I am a Somerset resident, currently living in Sedgemoor but spending most of my time in Wells where I work full-time and my 3 children go to school. My children are Jack aged 13, Lana aged 11 and Billy aged 8. So, although we have moved on from the soft play, baby and toddler group phase, it’s not too distant a memory. Now we really are in the thick of holiday clubs, day trips to local attractions, walks and parks!
In the beginning
The Mendips Rock started in the spring of 2018 at which time I was furiously adding attraction and event listings to the website to share with local people via our social media channels. The website was very well received, and I started to partner with local attractions and event’s organisers.
Covid culture
We ended our first year in a rather unexpected turn of events, as did everyone else with the advent of Covid. None of us could have predicted the unprecedented blah blah…. you all know how that goes! Anyway, our second year started with all attractions closed and events cancelled, and me wondering what do we do now? Well, we have tried to use this time to help support other local businesses and promote what has been open and going on at any point in time.
Support Local
As avid fans of supporting local businesses we are going to spend the run up to Christmas championing and promoting local shops, eateries, bars and more via our website and social channels. There will be no charges payable, I feel lucky to be in a position to use The Mendips Rock and do our bit to help out. If that results in a few extra bookings or sales for a local business owner then we will be more than happy with that.

The Mendips Rock of the future
Presently, The Mendips Rock is a labour of love and we are more than happy to use our platform to share information about what is going on and assist our audience in supporting local business.
All being well 2021 will see The Mendips Rock continuing to share all the amazing activities, attractions and events in the local area and provide support to local business by offering a low-cost advertising solution.
