A unique opportunity for young cricketers to receive dedicated spin bowling coaching from former International Spinner, Peter Such.
The Spin Academy, which is open to children nationwide who are aged 11 to 19, seeks to discover, improve and support gifted spin bowlers through a blended approach based on the extensive experience of former International Spinner, Peter Such, as both top-level player and coach.
Over recent years as a coach, Peter has worked closely with the likes of Monty Panesar, Graeme Swann, Moeen Ali, Adil Rashid, Jack Leach, Matthew Parkinson, Zafar Ansari, Mason Crane and Dominic Bess, whilst also supporting England Under 19, England Lions and County Spin Bowlers.
As a player, Peter had a 20 year career with Nottinghamshire, Leicestershire, Essex and England. During that time, as a spin bowler he took over 1,000 wickets in First XI County Cricket. On 51 occasions he took 5 wickets in an Innings and had nine 10 wicket bags. In his 11 Test Matches he took 37 wickets including two 5 wicket hauls with a Test Match best of 6 for 67 on debut verses Australia at Old Trafford.
Millfield's Director of Cricket, Mark Garaway, will be joining Peter for the coaching sessions. Mark has an extensive career in coaching being former England Assistant Coach and Performance Director of Irish Cricket.
The core of the programme is based around:
Developing technique so as to deliver spin consistently
Becoming tactically ‘more savvy’ so as to make best use talents in both red ball and white ball competition
Working on craft and exploring variations so as to become a more skillful bowler
Looking at the mental attributes needed to succeed as a spin bowler
Training in a way that develops the movement patterns that support spin and a consistent action
There will be ten coaching sessions from October-March at Millfield Senior School in Street, Somerset, plus continuous development throughout the year with remote support and analysis from Peter Such.
Coaching sessions will encompass a technical bowling session, tactical challenges, a batting session and a strength & conditioning session, with participants rotating around the different sessions throughout the day. Further sessions will become more bespoke to each participant, focusing on the technical and tactical developments required to improve their game.
